Not Rich Yet | Managing higher incomes

Casino weekend

I spent the weekend at a casino. Gambling has never been my deal, but there was a family event and it was held at a casino.

Here are my observations:

  • The vast majority of people at the casino looked like they should be the last people to be gambling. They all looked very much like the people I saw the other day at the cable company office who had to pay their cable bills in cash because they couldn’t get a checking account. Not one person looked like the glamorous tux- or cocktail dress wearing youthful yet wealthy “players” displayed in the same casino’s adds.
  • I apparently don’t enjoy gambling. I get no kick from systematically losing money, I guess I’m not wired for it
  • Instead, if I had to gamble, I would much prefer to make some long-shot bets buying stock options – e.g. banking on the S&P 500 tanking or going through the roof. At least there it isn’t pure (just a lot ) of luck and the pay-off actually is worth my while.

How about you? Do you enjoy gambling? Why?

    Hello Jake,
I like the concept of your blog. I saw your link / comment on Get Rich Slowly. I have the same feelings about GRS as you, even though I do not make mid-six figures. I still make six figures (well, me and my wife both make barely six figures each).

I completely agree with you about making my own laundry detergent. Even through I tried to dry laundry a couple of times (not fun!) out of my love for earth, than to save utilities bill.

I also do not comment on blogs. The main reason I am commenting is that you wrote 3 blogs and I do not see *ANY* comments. I just don’t want you to think no one is reading and quit writing.

By the by, I also share your feelings about gambling. Plus I do not like the cigerette smoke, so I don’t go in at all!.

Finally, keep up the good work. you have atleast one reader.

Thanks for the kind words. Your comment is much appreciated!

I never even tried the laundry detergent thing. I doubt my wife would let me anywhere near the washing machine with it :)

The casino we went to was smoke free, which was at least some relief.
